It seems like Post it notes are a must have in any office. I know I used my fair share to capture ideas In the past. How about you? Do you scribble stuff down on them. You can even use them to write your next book. One problem I had was I never really found a great way to organize and file them. Luckily Evernote solved that problem for me.
I have a simple system that you could use right on your iPhone to help you capture and organize your Post it Notes.
With Evernote you can easily capture your Post It Notes and store them for quick retrieval later.
Post its notes were created by accident and almost never made it to the market after disappointing early sales. Thankfully they became a success the next go around. I like looking a stack of of post it notes and thinking of the potential for great ideas in that stack.
My biggest problem with using post it notes was filing them in some way that I could retrieve them later. I actually watched a co worker stick them down to a piece of paper and file them in a note book. I finally asked hi if he could actually find notes about a topic from a few weeks ago? He answer was no – are you surprised at that answer – I wasn’t either.
People have called Evernote their digital brain. One great feature is the ability for Evernote to search notes and search hand written notes.
They’ve done something special with the post it notes. The app actually extracts the handwriting enhances it and places it onto a digital representation of the paper note inside a note. It’s really pretty cool.
This system is great because it gives you all the advantages of the post it notes and it takes full advantage of Evernote’s features.
You have 4 colors to play with.
• Electric yellow
• Neon pink
• Electric blue
• Limeade
Evernote allows you to assign the colors to an automatic action in Evernote.
You can do any of the followings options with each color note:
• File it in a specific notebook
• Assign a tag to it
• Add a reminder
Here’s my system:
• Electric yellow – These are notes I want a reminder set for.
• Neon pink – I may scribble down a few notes about errand I need to do. All I need to do is snap a photo and I can retrieve my note.
• Electric blue – what do you do when you a have a great idea – capture it! I use the blue post it ores and tag them with this tag “might be a good idea”.
• Limeade – a these notes go right to my inbox so I can process them later.
You can change the settings here:
- Open the app : go to Settings>General>Camera>Post It Notes
Once this is set, you simply open the app, click on the camera and set it to Post It Note.
I’ve tried to go all digital with my note taking and I still find it awkward to write on the iPad. So I look for ways to digitally organize my hand written notes.
