I’ve mentioned before how I strive to go all digital. One of the best tools I’ve found besides Evernote is Microsoft OneDrive. I store all my files in OneDrive and use Word Online or Excel Online to edit and create documents.
I can create and edit documents anywhere on any device!
I remember the days when I was tied to a computer. It was difficult to transfer files and keep them organized. You had to remember which file was the most current or save multiple copies.
Now it’s truly seamless to edit your documents anywhere. I move from my iPad to any computer and simply log in and the documents are in sync.
I’ve tried other approaches to online file storage but all have small issues that need to considered:
- Software versions – If you are using multiple computers you have to have the same versions of the software. True you can remember to save it down if need to be to an old versions but them again you have to remember to do that.
- Privacy – You can simple log out of the Microsoft Online and keep all your documents secure.
- Portability – Sure you can use a thumb drive but what if you forget it at home. It’s not very portable then.
One thing to consider is that the online versions have some reduced features. I’ve never run into an issue with Word Online but Excel Online has some missing features that I sometimes need. In that case you can download the file to the desktop version and then upload it to OneDrive.
Let’s talk more about this on Twitter.
